Recent Programming Highlights

Recent programme highlights have included our highly successful 2008 Christmas Toy Appeal. We teamed up with West Berkshire Children and Young People and Swift Couriers to ensure that a maassive pile of toys got donated to children all over the area.

Next up was our comprehensive coverage of the worst snow to hit West Berkshire in the last 20 years. This occured in February 2009 and resulted in schools being closed and roads becoming totally blocked. On air we fielded calls from stranded motorists, frustrated head teachers and rolling information from the local authorities.

The end of February 2009 saw Kick FM heavily involved with the annual Newbury Pancake Race - Ben and Claire from Breakfast, Ashley Doyle from Drivetime and Chrissie Neale our Sales Manager all took part in the race which raised valuable funds for the West Berkshire Rapid Response Unit.

At Kick FM we've also recently our first ever radio academy where people with an interest in media are being invite to apply for placements at the radio station. This unique scheme is still in it's infancy but has seen an amazing response from a wide range of young adults wanting to pursue a career in the industry. The Patron of the Academy is David Wylie who amongst other things was the man who first helped to launch Kick FM.

Recent News Highlights

In February 2009 we reported news of how the recession was having a direct impact on residents in West Berkshire. The announcement that 170 jobs were to go at Vodafone HQ in Newbury was one which would affect a whole host of people in the area. We spoke to Newbury's Mayor Phil Barnett who expressed his sympathy for those affected and fielded a number of calls from local people with views on this issue.

Elsewhere we have regular updates on the progress of West Berkshire's sports sides - from the Newbury Blues RFC to high flying Hungerford Town FC - we checl the fixtures on a Friday and bring listeners results on a Monday.
